EVENTS: Let's get Engaged! Improving involvement in Mental Health


AWP want you to come and tell them how they can do a better job of delivering their mental health services.

They are holding a number of ‘Let’s get engaged!’events. At these events they would like you to tell them how you think they can listen better and how they could improve the way they engage and involve you in the future of their services.

This is an opportunity for you to help make changes at one of the following events:

Great Western Hospital safety standards improved, says report

The Great Western Hospital in Swindon is meeting essential safety standards, according to the organisation that monitors its performance. 

A Care Quality Commission (CQC) report said improvements had been made since a previous report criticised it for leaving patients dehydrated and for mistakes during surgery.

The hospital said it had set up an action plan to address the issues.

The CQC said it is now satisfied with improvements the hospital has made.

New mental healthcare boss pledges transparency

THE new chairman of the NHS trust that runs mental health services in Wiltshire, Tony Gallagher has pledged that the organisation will be more transparent after it was criticised in a report earlier this year.

An independent review into the governance of the Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust (AWP) found that the trust was “centralist in style, with improvement required in clinical engagement and poor relationships with stakeholders". Following the report, which was commissioned by the Strategic Health Authority, there were changes in the board leadership with chairman Felicity Longshaw resigning in April and the retirement of chief executive Laura McMurtrie last month. In May NHS Wiltshire announced it was considering retendering mental health services due to concerns it had about AWP.

NHS Wiltshire to stage neurological support day

The fourth annual stakeholder event for people with long-term neurological conditions will be held at Devizes Sports Club on Friday. 

Maggie Rae, Corporate Director of Public Health, and Councillor Keith Humphries will headline the event by formally launching the Neurological Conditions Booklet. 

The booklet has been compiled and created by NHS Wiltshire with input from people living with long-term conditions and their carers. It gives information on the services available in Wiltshire and copies will be available for the public.
