Delays warning over flu jabs

Two vaccine manufacturers have warned GPs that supples of flu vaccine may be late this year due to delays in the manufacturing process.
It is thought six other makers are not experiencing difficulties.
Each year the World Health Organisation expert group decides which three strains of flu should be contained in the seasonal flu vaccine in order to provide the best match to the strains predicted to be in circulation.

Anyone who works within the NHS can be nominated for making a difference. It could be a volunteer making a cup of tea, a nurse taking extra time to listen or a colleague who always lifts the spirit of their team.

More transparency for mental health

THE AVON and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership is working towards becoming a Foundation Trust with a membership of local people who can influence how its services are provided.

AWP has come under fire in recent months following a critical report from the Care Quality Commission, which said the partnership had failed to meet essential standards.

And an independent review into the governance of AWP earlier this year found the trust was ‘centralist in style, with improvement required in clinical engagement and poor relationships with stakeholders’.

Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership 'lacked safety staff'

Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health NHS Trust has been criticised in a report which found it lacked enough staff to keep people safe.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) said the trust failed in four out of five areas of inspection in June.

It expressed "serious concerns" about the numbers of people failing to get treatment during a trust revamp.

The trust said some of the problems had been resolved and that redesigned services "would bring benefits".

Do you care for someone with cancer?

Macmillan are running a free six week online course to help people who give their time to support or look after someone with cancer.

The experience of caring for someone with cancer can be very rewarding - it can also be overwhelming.

People who look after or support a friend or relative with cancer often feel stressed, isolated and anxious. Many may not be aware of the information and support available to help them look after their own health and wellbeing.

The course aims to help participants to:

  • Build up knowledge and skills each week to make the most of their own health and wellbeing.

  • Share experiences and get tips and techniques from other carers.

  • Learn how to set achievable goals.

The course is facilitated by people who have experience of caring, and includes topics such as physical activity, communication, relaxation and how to get support.

To book on to the course, or find out more, visit the booking form.
